It’s the dream mode of transport, a private jet, and it may just be getting a whole lot better! XTI Aircraft Company is betting that you want to be taking off anywhere and everywhere, not just at airports, and they are going all out for funding. Founded in 2012 by David Brody, this privately owned aviation business is introducing the TriFan 600 project. The compact business jet with Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) capability features three ducted fans, two of which are located on the wings to transition from vertical lift to forward high-speed flight. The third one is mounted within the rear part of the fuselage to help during the lift phase, and is shuttered close during forward flight to reduce drag.

Able to reach cruise speed within 90 seconds, the aircraft is designed to reach a maximum speed of 400 mph, and a maximum cruising altitude of over 30,000 ft. This places it above predominant weather, and provides a comfortable ride for up to five passengers. The TriFan 600 design also foresees advanced fly-by-wire flight controls and a range of of 800 to 1,200 miles, depending on take-off method, baggage and passenger load. Once it reaches its destination, the hybrid aircraft is designed to land vertically on a helipad-sized paved surface. If it works and gets certified, it may well become the ultimate short range travel option for executives and adventurers.
