With the world of luxury travel ever evolving, and trends continuously shifting, ITB Berlin and IPK International have unveiled statistics reveraling that the world’s most sought after luxury travel destinations within Euorpe are culture fuelled Germany and Italy, while the most popular luxury travel destinations overall are the US followed by China and Mexico.
Throughout 2014, an impressive $194.6 billion was spent on international luxury travel, with over $1.130 being spent per night by luxury travellers from the UAE, India, Kuwait, Brazil, Australia, Canada and China (in that order). The largest source markets for luxury travel are the USA with 9.2 million foreign luxury trips, and China with 6.9 million, with other vital source markets including Japan, Canada and Australia.
Taking a closer look at Europe, most luxury trips are undertaken by the British, with 1.5 million, ahead of both the French and the Germans.
The most notable growth rate was in the number of luxury trips embarked on by Chinese tourists, followed by the USA, Canada, Taiwan, Korea and the UAE.
The most prominent categories of luxury holidays are tours, superseded by City trips, beach holidays and cruises, followed by business trips and (MICE) Meetings Incentive Conference and Event trips.
