Where is Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik is located near the very end of Croatia, in the south. It is just west of Montenegro, south of Bosnia and Herzegovina and almost directly across Vieste in Italy. The city is in close proximity of many of the southern Croatian islands and has a very busy harbour and a smaller one for yachts and smaller ships. It is, however, easier to locate with a map. Here is one that should help:

What to do in Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik is an ancient city with a rich history. One of the first things we would recommend doing to get an idea of the sheer size of the city is to take the cable car to the top of Mount Srdj (early morning and sunset are the best times for the most stunning views). There you will not only find a museum but also a ropeway where you can go for a hike. If you’re feeling courageous, you can also hike your way up to the top but that’s entirely up to you. When you come back down, you can take the tour of the city walls or the old city or even the harbour. Some of you may feel like you are familiar with the surroundings. It’s probably because part of the Game of Thrones series has been shot in Dubrovnik; the fictional city of King’s landing.

If you are interested in architecture, there are a few building you shouldn’t miss: the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Fort Lovrijenac, the Onophrian Fountain, the Minceta Fortress and the Franciscan Monastery. If you would like to learn more about the past of the city and particularly about the independence of the country you can visit the War Photo Limited museum, the Museum of Croatian War of Independence or the Archaeological Museum. If you would like a different kind of museum, Dubrovnik has the Aquarium and Maritime Museum, a great place for adults and children. If you prefer spending time working on your tan, you can also head to the Copacabana Beach or take a boat trip to one of the many islands such as: Mljet, the Island of Lokrum or Korcula Island. In the evening, you have many dining options available, depending on your tastes, with a few examples including the Cave Bar More, the Spice Lounge or the Culture Club Revelin if you just want to have a cocktail and dance.

The tourist board of Dubrovnik has made a video that will give you a taste of the city:
