Helicopter Landing Sites
The Team at Private Jet Charter can help and advise on helicopter landing sites worldwide.
When looking for a landing site, one of the main points is where you will be allowed to land. Apart from operational things such as, total weight, engine size and the distance of travelling, it is the space required in order to land. As a general rule most helicopters will require a flat area of clear ground, about the size of 2 tennis courts, with no obstructions such as power lines, trees and tall buildings and a good clear line of site, in and out of the required area.
As a rule it is always the Captains responsibility to make sure that the suitability of the landing site is within the performance capability of the helicopter. One essential thing to keep in mind is unless a helicopter is taking off or landing in accordance with normal practice, it is not allowed to fly within 500 feet of a person, vehicle or structure. This is something to consider if the landing site in mind is in a built up area. If you want to land on an elevated site within a city, such as a rooftop, a twin engine helicopter will be required.
There is also a standard rule for all pilots when navigating over congested built up areas known as the “1,000 Foot Rule”. This means that if you are flying above a built up area, you must stay at a height of at least 1,000 feet above the highest fixed object within 600 meters of the helicopter. The captains have to take this rule into consideration when approaching a particularly high landmark, such as a tower block or construction site, the helicopter is required to increase its altitude before it gets within 600 meters.
Private helicopters are a fast, efficient and safe way to travel and there are many places to land outside of built up areas. If we are unable to land at an area that you have specified, the Private Jet Charter team will use our years of knowledge and experience to find the closest most convenient spot for you to touch down. Most major cities have their own dedicated heliport but if you are unsure or just want to find out more contact the Private Jet Charter team today.
